Painters Tarragindi

Tarragindi is one of the most character-rich painting suburbs in Brisbane’s inner-south. You’re working largely with pre-war Queenslanders, post-war timber cottages, and inter-war brick homes — many on the elevated streets up Tarragindi Hill and along the Toohey Forest fringe. Painting these homes well is genuinely different from painting a modern brick veneer; the prep work alone is often half the job.

On a Queenslander or weatherboard cottage, we approach the exterior as a multi-stage process: high-pressure clean, full inspection of weatherboards for movement or rot, scraping and sanding of any flaking paint back to sound substrate, spot-priming bare timber with an oil-based undercoat, then two finish coats of a quality exterior acrylic. Fretwork, posts, lattice, and verandah ceilings each need their own attention — and the wrong colour combination on a heritage home stands out for all the wrong reasons.

For the inter-war brick homes (often along the Wellers Hill / Holland Park West borders), the issues are different: render cracking, mortar weathering, original window frames that may need a separate enamel treatment, and original tile features that need careful masking.
